NFL Analyst Sends Sterns Warning To 49ers QB Brock Purdy

Expectations are high for the San Francisco 49ers again entering the 2024 season. After advancing to the Super Bowl for the fourth time in five seasons, they are once again among the contenders in the NFL with quarterback Brock Purdy leading the offense.

The 49ers have been the gold standard in the NFC, advancing to the NFC Championship Game every year they have made the playoffs over the last five seasons. They have won that game twice, but have been defeated by the Kansas City Chiefs in both Super Bowl appearances.

That is something they will be looking to change in the 2024 season. San Francisco certainly has the pieces to win the title, and a lot of their success will fall on the shoulders of Brock Purdy.

Purdy has blown away all expectations to this point. He went from Mr. Irrelevan in the 2024 NFL Draft to the franchise quarterback of the 49ers. It was a role the franchise thought Trey Lance would hold, but Purdy wrestled the job away with excellent performance on the field.

Heading into his third season with the team, 2024 is a massive campaign for the Iowa State product. It will be the last one he plays without being eligible for a contract extension.

With the quarterback market booming, he is going to receive a massive raise with that extension. How much of a raise will be determined by his level of play.

During a recent segment on First Things First on FS1, Nick Wright sent a stern warning to the 49ers quarterback. There is a wide range of outcomes, as he can become the highest-paid quarterback in the league or be looking for a new team to play for.

“If Brock Purdy has the year he had last year, he’ll be the highest paid QB in the league temporarily. … But if he has a bad year, Kyle Shanahan falls in and out of love with QBs very quickly,’ Wright said when talking to Chris Broussard and Kevin Wildes.

It would be hard to imagine Brock Purdy not being the starting quarterback of the 49ers beyond the 2024 season. But, Wright does have a point about how willing Kyle Shanahan has been to change quarterbacks.

Look at how fast Lance was replaced by Purdy. Lance took over for Jimmy Garoppolo after Garoppolo helped lead the team to the NFC Championship Game. Expectations are sky-high and if they are not met, changes will be made.
