JUST IN: CBS Evening News to Replace Norah O’Donnell With Two Co-Anchors as Part of Massive Show Overhaul

Following the announcement of CBS Evening News anchor Norah O’Donnell stepping down after the 2024 presidential election , the network made moves to reinvent the show. As part of a complete shakeup of the show, CBS’ chief political analyst John Dickerson and Maurice DuBois — longtime anchor on CBS’ New York affiliate — will be the new co-anchors.

The two anchors will be joined by chief meteorologist Lonnie Quinn and Washington-based Face The Nation moderator Margaret Brennan — who will both play big roles.

The overhaul, reported by Variety , is being overseen by 60 Minutes executive producer Bill Owens with CBS aiming to revitalize the program with a format mix-up that will prioritize substance over speed by incorporating the investigative rigor of a newsmagazine and giving more time to its correspondents. The idea being that Evening News will then become an alternative to the fast-paced coverage of its competitors.

The network’s new strategy is described as an “ensemble” approach, focusing on in-depth reporting by its correspondents from the team at 60 Minutes – very often the most-watched non-sports prime-time show.

In an interview with Variety , Owens said: “We are removing the clutter. We are not going to be dealing with the things we think people might want to see, and we are going to be about real serious reporting. We are getting back to our beats, listening to our reporters in the field about what they have, not worrying about the headlines online or in the newspapers.”

The changes reflect a broader transformation at the organization as new ownership looms for parent company Paramount Global. The network is betting on this new format to attract viewers and stand out, once again, in the crowded evening news market.
