One person is dead in a single-vehicle rollover crash in northern Wisconsin, according to the Vilas County Sheriff’s Department.

The crash was reported just after midnight Thursday. Police say the driver was headed east on Hwy. 70 at a high rate of speed and proceeded through an intersection onto St. Germain Blvd. He then struck a large rock before rolling several times, police said. The driver was ejected from the vehicle and was airlifted to Aspirus in Wausau, where he was pronounced dead.

The victim’s name is being withheld pending notification of family. No additional information was immediately released.

    The crash remains under investigation.

The Pilot often relies on reports from police officials in control of a crime, fire or crash scene during a breaking news event. While these initial reports are valuable to readers, they also can be incomplete and even inaccurate. We let readers know what we can and can’t confirm, as well as when and how we received our information. Then we work to aggressively gather a wider range of perspectives and to verify the information through public records, interviews, photos and videos, all of which are verified before publishing.
