The first day of August means that school is just around the corner . If you haven't bought school supplies, you will have to go to another state if you are looking to save money on taxes.
Neither Kentucky nor Indiana have tax-free holidays, which means parents and students have to go to nearby states to save a few bucks on their back-to-school shopping.
Here are the tax free days around the country, including nearby states:
Why doesn't Kentucky have sales tax holiday?
Spokesperson Jill Midkiff, the former director of communications of Kentucky's finance and administration cabinet, previously told The Courier Journal Kentucky has never had a tax-free holiday.
"A tax holiday would require an act of the General Assembly," Midkiff said. "Therefore, Kentucky has not had a sales tax holiday for any purpose."
Bills have been proposed in the past calling for a sales tax holiday, but the legislature has not passed them.

July 30-Aug. 8

- Ohio's tax-free holiday in 2024 has been expanded to 10 days and is not limited to school-related supplies. The tax-free period includes anything that is considered tangible personal property that is $500 or less, except watercraft, anything with an outboard motor that must be titled, a motor vehicle, alcohol, tobacco, a vapor product or a product that contains marijuana. Dine-in meals, which are usually taxed, are also tax-free if they are less than $500.
