A 44-year-old Double-Headed Yellow Amazon Parrot was surrendered to the shelter for the third time in her life before landing in her forever home a year ago, and seeing her thrive is heartwarming.
On July 25, 2024, TikTok user Becky Sheppard (@the.serial.entrepreneur) shared a video of her parrot, Denise, and an update on how she's doing. Take a look!
In a 23-second video, we meet Denise, a 44-year-old Double-Headed Yellow Amazon Parrot . She's a beautiful green bird with a yellow head, curious eyes, and a very sweet personality.

"44-year-old Denise was surrendered to the shelter three times before landing with me last year," the text on the screen reads. "This is her forever home, which could be another 20 years or more!"
In the clip, which is set to "You Are My Sunshine" by Christina Perri, we get to watch Becky interact with Denise, who seems like the sweetest bird. Mom pets her head, and we get to watch the silly bird weave and wobble to help her find the best place to scratch, which is just under her neck.
In the comments, Becky admitted that Denise "doesn't always love me," but she's OK with that and is "dedicated to taking care of her." And it makes sense why Denise would be a little stand-offish or hesitant to bond. But it sounds like they're getting there!
In another comment, Becky shared that when she leaves the house and comes back, Denise "gets so excited."
There were a lot of other comments left on the video, too.
One said, "I have one of those, too! She was found as a stray shower at a BBQ, and no one claimed her. We tracked her band, and she is over 40. She is home now and my clinic mascot."
Another wrote, "They just want to be loved."

Another viewer asked, "Whaaaaat??? Why would somebody give her up?" And Becky answered, "She’s loud and can be aggressive. She was with her first family 36 years though so I think her aggression is from losing them. I’ve told her this is her forever home."

They have an incredibly long lifespan of 60 years, so anyone considering getting one for their family needs to ensure they're in it for the long haul. They'll also need a backup plan for who could care for the bird if needed.
According to Lafeber Company , the Double Yellow Headed Amazon Parrot loves to talk, and they love to sing. "These birds are talkative, boisterous, and inclined to burst out in song," they share.
"Males are known for doing what is best described as a mach strut — tail feathers flared out, sliding across the floor while making shrilling sounds."
