Telfar Celebrated Liberia With Its Own Paris Olympics Gear & Now You Can Buy It

T elfar continues to bridge the gap between culture and high fashion. The label is launching an Olympics collection for Team Liberia.

As reported by Hypebeast, the New York, New York-based brand has announced a new drop that is timely, relevant, and empowering. Last week the posted a teaser confirming the speculation that they designed the uniforms for Team Liberia. In the clip, the athletes are seen wearing kaftan-like robes as they are paraded through the city. As expected the teaser created immediate buzz from their loyal fanbase. On Tuesday, July 30 they unveiled the collection and it doesn’t disappoint.

This release is all about athleisure wear with a bold twist. Included are crop hooded sweatshirts with matching baggy sweatpants. We also get a T-shirt to complete the look. The Team Liberia branding comes alive with a very bold font in white on throughout all the garments. Additionally, they come in two colorways, grey and black. True to Telfar’s pricing model, each piece is affordably priced, with the Basic Tee starting at $58.00.

Telfar also designed the unisex uniforms for Liberia in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. In 2021, he was interviewed by Dezeen, where the designers behind the collection revealed that the New York-born creative was asked to create something that meant more to the country than just uniforms, but also encompassed who they are as a people.

“The garments tell the story of a journey of recognition — in which Telfar saw the roots of his design DNA all around him in the streets of a country with a history deeply entwined with America’s own,” the designers told Dezeen . “In this sense, the Liberian National Team manifests a profound narrative of repatriation. Telfar, like the athletes who make up the team, is asked to represent something much deeper than a nation.”
