Prince Harry & Meghan Markle Are Making a Move Fans Haven't Seen Since 2021

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are making a rare move that fans haven’t seen since 2021, and it’s bound to spark both interest and criticism. The Sussexes will be appearing in a joint, sit-down interview with Jane Pauley for CBS Sunday Morning on Aug. 4., but they won’t be rehashing any royal drama this time.

The pre-recorded interview is going to center around their latest passionate project about children and social media. It will be a continuation of their Archewell Foundation work that began last fall with a focus on mental health, online bullying, and ways tech companies can protect kids. The charitable organization has set up a support network for parents who have lost children to suicide after being bullied by their peers online. A clip shared on X showed how important this cause is to the couple as Meghan gushed about Prince Archie, 5, and Princess Lilibet, 3, calling them “amazing.”

“All you want to do as parents is protect them. And so, as we can see what’s happening in the online space, we know that there’s a lot of work to be done there,” Meghan explained in the preview. “We’re just happy to be able to be a part of a change for good.” Harry chimed in with his thoughts, “At this point, we’ve got to the stage where almost every parent needs to be a first responder. And even the best first responders in the world wouldn’t be able to tell the signs of possible suicide. That is the terrifying piece of this.”

Meghan knows all too well what it’s like to be bullied online as she has been the ongoing target of scrutiny since she joined the royal family in 2018. The X analytics service, Bot Sentinel, revealed in 2021 that around 70% of the “negative and often hateful content” came from 83 accounts with a combined total of 187,631 followers. “This campaign comes from people who know how to manipulate the algorithms, manipulate Twitter, stay under the wire to avoid detection and suspension,” Christopher Bouzy, the CEO of Bot Sentinel told Buzzfeed News. “This level of complexity comes from people who know how to do this stuff, who are paid to do this stuff.”

The Duchess of Sussex opened up about her mental health struggles while she was a working member of the royal family, telling Oprah Winfrey in 2021, “I was ashamed to say it at the time and ashamed to have to admit it to Harry. But I knew that if I didn’t say it — then I would do it.” Meghan continued, “I just didn’t want to be alive anymore. That was clear and real and frightening and constant thought.” When she turned to a senior member of the palace asking for help, Meghan shared a shocking response. “I was told I couldn’t because it wouldn’t be good for the institution,” she claimed.

The mental health and social media link will continue to be a major focus for the Sussexes and their Archewell Foundation. They have an upcoming trip to Colombia after being invited by Vice President Francia Márquez — which will no doubt irk the palace . Still, Harry and Meghan are moving forward with initiatives that speak to them and they hope their powerful voice will make a difference in the online space.
