‘The View’ Absolutely Hammers Trump, Praises ABC Colleague Who Interviewed Him at NABJ Forum: ‘He Unravels’ When ‘Women Challenge Him’

The morning after former President Donald Trump’s combative appearance at the National Association for Black Journalists Convention on Wednesday, the co-hosts of ABC’s The View took him out to the woodshed for his behavior.

In addition to offering praise for their ABC colleague Rachel Scott , who moderated the truncated event, co-hosts Whoopi Goldberg , Sunny Hostin , Alyssa Farah Griffin , Joy Behar , and Sara Haines all had a lot to say about Trump’s attacks on Vice President Kamala Harris and her racial identity:

It started out with Goldberg pointing out that Trump’s behavior was not unprecedented:

Goldberg: You know what? I refuse. I refuse because this is nothing new. This is not new. We knew this was who he was. This is who he’s always been. So I’m not paying him any mind except when I’m here.

Behar: That’s smart.

Goldberg: Some of the journalists were saying he arrived angry. He was angry when he got there. He was told he would be fact-checked in real time . And apparently that put his nose out of joint.

Hostin: And it was actually live, the fact-checking was live-streamed on a separate platform, but it was being done, and that ticked him off.

Then Hostin went into her own biracial identity, which includes being Black, and similarities with Harris’s biracial identity:

I’ve been a member of the National Association of Black Journalists for about 20 years. And the same sorority, which is a historically Black sorority. Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority, Incorporated. She went to an HBCU, Howard University. She was the president of the Black Law Students Association in her law school. She joined the Congressional Black Caucus when she became a senator. She is a Black woman. And to your point, Whoopi, in this country if you are biracial, but you have any drop of Black blood in you, you are considered a Black person.

Griffin called Trump’s attacks “so despicable,” and added:

[I]f you didn’t know who he was, he’s saying it very loudly. I do want to give kudos to ABC’s Rachel Scott, who was just amazing, and [Semafor’s] Kadia Goba , did an excellent job holding his feet to the fire. And there is something about when women challenge him that he unravels.
