    10-year-old boy stabbed to death in Westmoreland County; 13-year-old charged with murder

    A 10-year-old boy is dead and a 13-year-old is facing murder charges after a stabbing in Westmoreland County.

    James Campbell, 13, has been charged with criminal homicide and first-degree murder. He is being charged as an adult.

    The stabbing happened Thursday morning inside a home in the 400 block of Donegal Lake Road in Donegal Township.

    Thursday evening, the victim was identified as Hunter Meyers, 10. He died about three weeks before his 11th birthday.

    Police said the victim was sleeping over at Campbell’s house. Someone later called 911 around 6 a.m. when they found the victim dead with a knife beside him. Investigators said that Campbell had blood on his pants and feet.

    Campbell confessed to police to stabbing the victim in the head several times, according to the complaint.

    A motive for the stabbing is still unknown. The Pennsylvania State Police are asking anyone who may have information about what led to the stabbing to contact them.
