It's still summer and the month of August will let us have it, with high chances for above-normal temperatures, according to the National Weather Service office in Mount Holly.

So far this summer, New Jersey has registered record-breaking high temperatures. June, for instance, was the second-hottest June in New Jersey weather records dating from 1895, with an average temperature of 73.6 degrees, exceeded only by an average of 73.9 degrees in 2010, according to the Rutgers Weather Network .

August started with heat indexes above 100 degrees, caused by high temperatures combined with high humidity levels, and it seems that the rest of the month will continue to see elevated temperatures.

"We are looking at a 50% to 70% chance for above-(average temperatures) for the month as a whole," said NWS meteorologist Amanda Lee. And the southern part of New Jersey has higher chances of seeing warmer temperatures this month, she added.

Overall, the monthly temperature outlook calls for higher temperatures everywhere else in the continental U.S.

When it comes to precipitation, there is a 35% to 40% chance of New Jersey seeing above-average rainfall totals in August. Chances for increased precipitation levels are 10% higher for most of the Jersey Shore, especially for Ocean County and the coastal counties south of it, according to the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration's Climate Prediction Center.
