Jurgen Klopp received 'crazy' job offer day after announcing Liverpool exit

Former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has revealed he received a "crazy" job offer just one day after announcing his Anfield exit.

The German confirmed in January that he would be leaving the Reds at the end of the 2023-24 season, citing that he was "running out of energy" after almost nine years at the helm. Nonetheless, the 57-year-old battled through the remainder of the campaign and even picked up one final piece of silverware in the Carabao Cup .

Since his departure in May, Klopp has been very strongly linked with the head coach role for the USMNT , although he swiftly turned down any approaches in order to have a year out from football. Even brief rumors linking him with the England job were very quickly shut down .

However, while it may seem as though the USMNT moved quickly to approach Klopp following his last game managing Liverpool, it wasn't quite as quick as another party, who barely waited 24 hours after Klopp announced his departure before ringing him up.

Klopp recently revealed that he actually got a phone call the day after his announcement, making him wonder if people even took notice of his desire to have a break. Speaking to the Coaches' Congress in Wurzburg, per Sky Sports , he said: "At the moment, there is nothing at all in terms of jobs. No club, no country.

"It doesn't matter who calls: In my resignation statement, I said that I wouldn't coach any country or club for a year. Some people must have missed that part. The very next day, someone called, and I said, 'Are you crazy? I just explained that yesterday'."

Klopp did not reveal who the eager caller was so it remains as to who it could have been. Nonetheless, Klopp was going to refuse the offer either way, no matter who it was.

But given the German's managerial record, especially since joining Liverpool in 2015, coupled with his renowned style of play, man management and general all-round experience, it's no surprise to hear some people could barely wait 24 hours to see if he would change his mind.

The former Reds boss has, of course, taken up a role to become an honorary ambassador of the LFC Foundation since his Anfield departure, but it's safe to say we won't be seeing him return to any touchlines anytime soon.

That was made especially clear when he announced his resignation, having agreed with Liverpool that he could only leave his contract one year early if he stayed away from other coaching jobs for the remainder of the year.
