On Tuesday, renowned American single malt distiller Westward Whiskey unveiled its third Whiskey Club release of the year with the debut of a Bottled-In-Bond expression. Distilled in March 2017, the liquid was matured for seven years in the "warm, dry summers and cool, wet winters" of Oregon. Westward claims that the variant weather allowed subtle complexities — "distinctly floral" — to take hold within the whiskey. From there, the spirit was proofed at 50% ABV in keeping with its
Bottled-In-Bond designation. Westward Whiskey BIB is the distiller's third release of the year through its direct-to-consumer Whiskey Club. Previous bottlings in the series were its 90-proof Vienna Malt and red wine-finished Vintner’s Cuvée . Its latest release, available exclusively to club members at $99.95, can be found here .
“With this expression, we set out to capture the pioneering spirit of the American Northwest while honoring a rich whiskey-making tradition," Westward Whiskey Master Blender Miles Munroe remarked in a news release. "Bottled-In-Bond expertly demonstrates the maturing power of the Pacific Northwest’s climate and the skill of our blenders.”
Westward was brought to market in 2004 by distiller Miles Munroe and Thomas Mooney, the former president of the American Craft Spirits Association. Over the years, the imprint has developed a reputation for stellar bottlings, our personal favorites including its Milestone expression and Grand Cru Sauternes Cask Finish . Behind the scenes, Westward has established itself as a key figure in whiskey advocacy. In 2016, the brand had a hand in co-founding the American Single Malt Whiskey Commission, an organization that has continued to petition the U.S. government on proposed standards for the burgeoning spirits category.
