Usually, when Paul Finebaum is making headlines, it's for one of his obligatory hot takes that sends college football fans up in arms. On Thursday, the headline concerning him was a little different, though it will now just give the longtime analyst an extended stay to do what he does best.

ESPN signed Finebaum to a new multi-year deal, which means he'll continue to be a major part of the network's programming.

Of course, those on social media and others have had things to say about this decision by ESPN. But others, like fellow college football analyst Josh Pate, the host of Late Kick Live , offered his congratulations in his usual charming way, giving Finebaum a nickname in the process.

"Congrats to my Uncle Paul 🤝🤝🤝," Pate said.

Pate has become one of the most likable, respected, and successful new college football analysts over the last couple of years and is now categorized with the likes of Finebaum. He's often known for his humorous, albeit respectful gestures, calling many of his colleagues "uncle," like CBS Sports' Dennis Dodd, who he often refers to as "Uncle Dennis."

Before he became a popular radio and television personality, Finebaum spent decades as an award-winning columnist and reporter for the Birmingham Post-Herald and later the Mobile Press-Register. He also later wrote for Sports Illustrated.

Since launching The Paul Finebaum Show on ESPN Radio back in 2013, Finebaum's popularity has taken off. A year later, the show was simulcast on SEC Network, and now the recently turned 69-year-old can be seen on multiple platforms throughout ESPN's broadcasts, including Get Up , First Take , SportsCenter , College Football Live , and more.

One of the more fan-favorite shows has been #FinebaumFriday, which features the host traveling to SEC campuses the day before major games during the fall. The first of the upcoming season will be on Aug. 30 as The Paul Finebaum Show travels to Gainesville for the Miami vs. Florida matchup.
