Silken Windhounds Compete in the ‘Noodle’ Olympics and Deserve All the Gold Medals

For those of us who could never compete in the Olympics, even in our wildest dreams, the Games are unbelievably entertaining. It's something that everybody, whether you're a sports fan or not, looks forward to.

Even better, though, are all the dog parodies of the Olympic Games that come about every 4 years. Just like us humans, dogs vary widely in ability, and it's always fun to see them try to "compete." This year, the best attempt goes to this video from Wednesday, July 31st, when two pups were competing in the Noodle Olympics:

Whether she'd win the real Olympics or not, Cleo Long Legs is the winner in my heart. Look at these house horses!

There are two dogs in this video: a 5-year-old Silken Windhound and an 8-year-old Borzoi. They look similar, and they really are pretty similar pups. They're long, and affectionately referred to by all as "noodle dogs." Their legs and noses are long enough to be confused for noodles. Plus, they're pretty floppy!

In these Noodle Olympics, it looks like Cleo, the Silken Windhound, emerged victorious. It was a close call, but Abby ( the Borzoi ), just doesn't have the same grace that her sister does. There's nothing wrong with that - maybe next year!

    Borzoi vs. Silken Windhounds

At first glance, these two pups look nearly identical. They're both big, long, have beautiful feathery coats, and their noses are long enough to sniff out treats in outer space.

The breeds are very similar because Borzois are one of the main breeds that was used to create the Silken Windhound, along with some Whippets. Since the other breeds used in the creation of the Silken Windhound are not as big as the Borzoi, Silkies ended up a bit smaller. In addition to that, they have a few key differences from the Borzoi:

    1. Temperament: they're a little less trusting of humans and some dogs.
    2. Energy level: Borzois are famously chill, while Silken Windhounds have a bit more energy.
    3. Because they're a bit smaller, Silkies are more "graceful" than Borzois, as seen in the tippy-tappy competition.
    4. Borzois range in color, but most Silken Windhounds are on the lighter side.

Both breeds can be good with kids as long as they're not too rough with them, and they can get along with cats if introduced correctly. Just remember that even the smaller Silken Windhounds are still pretty big, so there may be moments when they don't know their own strength. Perhaps that's what helped Cleo go for the gold!
