Massive Maine Coon Cat Is So Big He Reaches the Counter Just Like a Dog

If you're living in a small space or an apartment, that can often play a role in the kind of pet you decide to adopt. While big dogs are going to be more comfortable with more space (and a backyard, in the most ideal situation), smaller homes are more suited to smaller dogs. The good news? If you have a cat, you can pretty much live anywhere that pets are allowed. As long as they have something they can climb (and nap on), they're usually good. No matter what kind of cat you have, it can't be that big, right?

Uh... wrong. Sure, most cats aren't bigger than a small dog, but then there's this cat. He's making waves on TikTok because of his size. Not only is he bigger than some dogs, but I'm also pretty sure he's bigger than my 4 year old...

Shared on Wednesday, July 31 by @zeus.mainecoon.official , this video has introduced me to a black Maine Coon named Zeus who is, apparently, taller than his kitchen counter when he stands on his hind legs. OMG.

In another video that Zeus' mom shared as a follow up, she gave another view at just how tall this guy is when he stands up, along with his stats. According to her caption, her three year old cat weighs approximately 26-28 pounds, and he's a total sweetheart to his mama.

"Even though Zeus is a giant and imposing cat, and very impatient when it comes to his delicious food, Zeus has never scratched me on purpose, never bit me and is very gentle every time I feed him," she wrote.

    Good boy, Zeus!

I truly cannot emphasize just how big this cat is. Here, you can see what he looks like all stretched out in his mom's arms, while this video shows what he looks like sitting down.

He must give the best cuddles...

Why Are Maine Coons Such Large Cats?

As MaineCoon.org explains, there are few factors that could explain this breed's large size , though it's not clear exactly why they're so big.

It's true that Maine Coons grow at a slower rate than other breeds. While most domesticated cats are fully grown by the time they reach their first birthday, Maine Coons will continue to get bigger until age three or four, so they have a lot more time to get bigger and bigger.

Genetics, of course, play a role, but it's hard to get into the nitty gritty since we don't know exactly how these cats evolved. Many experts that they may have come from an exotic breed of cat brought over to America by the Vikings that is now extinct. Hopefully one day we'll know for sure!

Zeus is only three, so he could keep growing for another year. I hope his mom has plenty of cat food – this guy is probably eating her out of house and home!
