There’s nothing quite like the love between a father and daughter, and that was clear in a video going viral featuring a young woman Xylene, a United Airlines pilot, who surprises her dad onboard a flight to LaGuardia Airport.
In the video, which Xylene shared to her Instagram account , the shock is evident on her father’s face when he comes to discover it’s his daughter standing at the front of the plane, repeatedly asking, “What are you doing here?”
She revealed that she misled her father so that she could orchestrate the surprise, dropping him at the airport and informing him that she would be flying to Albuquerque. Her dad, who was visiting from Trinidad and Tobago to pay his daughter a visit in Houston, was shocked to see his daughter, and the message she gave to him and his fellow passengers is one that will tear at the heartstrings for sure!
“Daddy, I wanted to express my heartfelt gratitude for your unwavering support,” she says in the video. “Your belief in me has been the wind beneath my wings. I couldn’t have come this far without you and thank you for always being present in my life. I hope you enjoy this flight as much as I enjoy having you on board.”
Her father, who stood beside her as she gave him this touching tribute, adorably exclaimed, “I’ll try not to tear up!”

The pilot ends by thanking the passengers for flying with them, jokingly finishing by saying her dad wanted her to be a doctor.
Xylene shares her story
In the caption of the Instagram post in which she shared the now-viral video, Xylene gave the backstory of her father, explaining that he immigrated to the United States, earned his bachelor’s degree, attended medical school and had ambitions of becoming a neurosurgeon.
Though financial hardships prevented him from making that dream a reality, he was determined to give his daughter a different outcome when she faced similar financial difficulties when pursuing her education and dreams, as she struggled to find a loan provider to accept her.
“Despite not being able to pay my way through school, my dad went to great lengths to find a solution,” she explained. “I thought he was crazy, but he was really just crazy for me, willing to do whatever it took to help me achieve my dreams.”
She went on to share that he was eventually approved to co-sign with her, opening up the doors she needed to achieve her goals.
