( NewsNation ) — Meghan flew into the Hamptons last week for the G9 Ventures Business Summit and gamely took pictures with her bestie, Misha NoNoo, and makeup maven Bobbi Brown … but it’s who’s not in the pictures that have tongues wagging out east.
Also at the event: Gwyneth Paltrow , Reese Witherspoon and Diane Sawyer, none of whom were snapped with the Duchess of Sussex.
“They know that if they are in a picture with (Meghan) it is a tacit approval of her that she can use to promote herself,” my insider told me. “Meghan can show up at events where they are at, move into their neighborhood (Paltrow owns a house near Markle and Harry in Montecito) but they are not friends. A rep for Paltrow didn’t comment.
Meanwhile, across the pond, the royal family has had enough of their errant relatives.
Prince Harry’s friends told People King Charles no longer takes his son’s calls or responds to his letters.
“He gets ‘unavailable right now,’ ” the friend told People. “His calls go unanswered. He has tried to reach out about the King’s health, but those calls go unanswered too.” (To be fair, Charles isn’t the only royal not returning calls or letters; Prince William and the Princess of Wales have also rebuffed the talkative duo who reached out to Kate after her cancer diagnosis.)
However, royal insiders hit back saying Harry knew the consequences of leaving “The Firm” and he wanted to have his cake and eat it too – something that, despite what Harry says, his grandmother, the Queen, made crystal clear.
To make matters even worse, Harry has alluded to the fact (in his mind) that the only reason he wrote his tell-all autobiography “Spare” and did interviews with Netflix and Oprah Winfrey is that he needed money and his father “cut him off.” These allegations are “ridiculous,” my sources say as Harry had millions in his personal bank account from his mother, Princess Diana, and was given millions by King Charles to help set him up in his new life in America.
Perhaps King Charles just doesn’t want to have the same conversation over and over (and over) on why Harry and Meghan can’t have police protection.

Harry claims his wife and children can’t go back to the UK because of safety and security concerns, holding his children Archie and Lilibet as carrots over Charles’ head. However, Harry was told in no uncertain terms that he would not be afforded state protection should he leave his job with the Firm. (As I reported, Meghan refuses to go back as she is deeply unpopular in the UK and loathes being booed.)
Harry sued the government (and lost) over police protection, but is still angry, claiming Charles could still get him what he wants (a claim the Palace refutes).
“Harry is acting like a spoiled child,” one source told me. “He made his bed and now he has to lie in it. And he keeps making things worse… not many people have told him ‘no’ in his life and he’s now on unfamiliar territory.”
The limelight-loving couple will next be seen on CBS Sunday Morning with Jane Pauley this Sunday to talk about bullying, online abuse and children. We will see if they mention the royals.
