Simone Biles' Massive Mistake Makes Olympic All-Around Finals Dangerously Close

Simone Biles is the greatest gymnast of all time, however even the best make mistakes. Biles made an uncharacteristically huge error on her "weakest" event, the uneven bars, during the Women's All-Around Finals at the 2024 Paris Olympics

The 27-year-old started off the competition incredibly strong on vault. She performed the Yurchenko double pike, also known as "The Biles II," which is the most difficult skill in the entire competition. Biles scored a 15.766 and entered the uneven bars rotation in first place.

However, Biles had too much power on her Pak salto transition down to the lower bar after her pike Tkatchev midway through her routine. She saved herself by bending her knees and not touching the ground, but this incredibly rare error earned Biles a major deduction.

Biles scored a 13.733, which opened the door Brazil's Rebeca Andrade to take over first place. Algeria's Kaylia Nemour performed a fantastic uneven bars routine, which pushed Biles down to third place.

The nine-time national champion, who won the all-around gold medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics, however, was able to regain her lead. The 27-year-old went on to crush her beam routine and performed a brilliant floor exercise.

Biles finished the day with an overall 59.131 score, clinching the gold medal. Andrade earned silver with a 57.932 score, and Team USA's Suni Lee won bronze (56.465)

The most-decorated gymnast in U.S. history now has six gold medals, the most of any gymnast, male or female, in U.S. history. She could possibly add three more medal to that collection in Paris, as she qualified to compete in the beam, floor, and vault finals.
