‘My mom is pregnant and has stolen the name I wanted to call my future daughter'

A girl is upset with her mother for using the baby name she’s always loved. She, 20, explained on Reddit that ever since she was a little girl, she’s loved the name Karina. She came across it for the first time when she was 9 years old, watching a YouTube video with a girl bearing that name.

“It’s such a beautiful name , and I adore it deeply,” she wrote. Her parents also loved the name. She would call all of her stuffed animals, and even random inanimate objects Karina.

“I was a typical little girl, playing with baby dolls every day, pretending I was her mom and dressing her, feeding her, all the sorts! Her name was always Karina.”

Her parents are young, as her mom had her at 17 years old. She is currently 37 and 5 months pregnant.

They recently found out the gender of the baby, and it’s a girl. Everyone in the family is excited for a new baby to be around.

A few days ago, however, the mom announced the name of the baby on Facebook. She chose the name Karina.

She immediately texted them asking if that was a joke, to which they replied no.

Now, the Reddit poster hasn’t been able to stop crying, because she feels she can’t name her future child the same name as her little sister. Her mom told her she’s being dramatic.

People told her that while it’s an unfortunate situation, she doesn’t own the name or plan to have children anytime soon.

One said: “Get over this crying non-stop. You don't even have children, your mother also loves this name and when and if you ever have a child, there is nothing stopping you from naming that child Karina.

“Also, they didn't steal your dream baby name. You would have needed to own it to have it stolen. You don't own it.”

I do think the Mom was kinda rotten for doing that because she knew how special this name was to the daughter and didn't care. Of course, No one owns names....it's an emotional boundary thing. I hope that if she ever does have a daughter, she'll still name it Karina. She'll get over it, but it just didn't feel good because it was Mom that did it.
