The heat was on during the week of July Fourth, with Nielsen reporting an all-time high amount of minutes streamed.

For the week of July 1, Nielsen tallied more than 313 billion total minutes viewed on streaming — the highest level since Nielsen began tracking streaming in March 2021.

Helping fuel the record was no one boffo title (such as when Stranger Things one week in 2022 racked up 4.8 billion minutes), but the fact that for the first time ever, all 10 entries in Nielsen’s overall U.S. streaming ranking clocked in with at least a billion minutes viewed.

What’s more, on Sunday, July 7 alone, Nielsen recorded the fourth-highest daily level of streaming ever, trailing only Jan. 13 (when Peacock hosted an NFL playoff game) and the post-Super Bowl weekend of Feb. 17-18.

What’s New on Streaming in August! View List

Netflix’s 115-minute Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F movie topped Nielsen’s overall streaming chart with nearly 2.1 billion minutes viewed. By my sloppy math, that translates to 18 million “views” and, if you wanna get even sloppier , at least a $200 million opening weekend if those were tickets being sold.

Suits (which streams on Netflix and Peacock) placed second with 1.5 billion minutes viewed across its 137-episode library, followed by HBO’s House of the Dragon (up 24% week-to-week with 1.3 billion minutes viewed/14 episodes available on Max), Showtime’s Your Honor (1.23 billion minutes viewed on Paramount+ and Netflx) and Hulu’s The Bear (1.2 billion minutes).

Rounding out Nielsen’s overall streaming Top 10 for the week of July 1 were Dexter (1.2 billion minutes viewed on Paramount+/Netflix), Prime Video’s The Boys (1.1 billion minutes), Disney+’s Bluey (1.1 billion minutes), Netflix’s 114-minute Family Affair movie (1.05 billion minutes) and Grey’s Anatomy (just noth of a billion minutes on Hulu and Netflix).
