Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon has fuelled the fire over a move to Liverpool this summer with a recent Mohamed Salah admission.

The 23-year-old continues to be linked with a move to Anfield in the current transfer window despite the Magpies remaining intent on retaining his services for the upcoming campaign. Liverpool.com understands the club is keen on Gordon , and recent reports, however, have suggested Liverpool is pulling together a fresh bid for the England international.

But while the transfer rumor mill continues to rumble along, Gordon himself has inadvertently added to it with some recent comments on Liverpool's star man.

When asked by The Footy Culture Podcast who his toughest opponent has been, Gordon initially listed Paris Saint-Germain right-back Achraf Hakimi, before claiming that Salah is the best player he's ever played against on a football pitch.

He said: “I would say directly against, I would say Hakimi for PSG. He was definitely the best right-back. But on the pitch, I would probably say Mo Salah.”

Even though he plays at the complete opposite side of the pitch to the Egyptian, with Salah operating on the right wing and Gordon on the left wing, the duo have often overlapped when putting in their defensive duties.

Nonetheless, Gordon's comments will certainly prick up a few ears on Merseyside amid all the recent transfer speculation, especially given the fact he's now hinted and wanting to play alongside Salah.

A recent report from The Sunday World claimed the Reds have been given encouragement that Gordon is eager to join them this summer.

That same report also added Liverpool is weighing up a fresh offer for the winger in the near future, with it being suggested that it could even include players from Anfield as part of the deal in order to get Newcastle to depart with its star man.

But Newcastle is said to be holding out for a package of up to $129million (£100million/€119million) to even consider selling its prized asset before the new season, according to Football Insider , meaning Liverpool's chances remain slim - especially if it wants to strengthen in other areas of the pitch.
