As the 65th Rose of Tralee festival is fast approaching, it has been announced that familiar face Nuala Carey of RTE Weather and National Lottery fame will return to the judging panel this year.

Carey will be joined by Luzveminda O'Sullivan, the 1998 Rose of Tralee, Ollie Turner, double as broadcaster and councillor, and Don O'Neill, a household name in Irish fashion design, complete the lineup of judges.

Nuala shared her delight on social media, writing: "I'm delighted to be returning to @roseoftraleefestival this year as the RTE Judge once again. Here I am with my fellow judges - the fabulous @dononeilldesign, Ollie Turner and Mindy O'Sullivan."

  • "We met altogether for the first time this week and had a ball. We are sure to make a formidable team in our search for the 2024 International Rose of Tralee.", reports RSVP Live .

In an insightful chat with RSVP Live before last year's event, Nuala revealed what the judging panel looks for in a winning Rose: "We know already that each of them are very bright, very intelligent, they're confident, self-assured," she said.

"At this point, what we're looking for is someone with the 'X factor.' Something that you can't actually define - when we meet her, we'll know her. After we chat to her, we will know she is the right one. We'll be spending so much time with all of them, which is good because we really get a good sense of who they are and if they would be right for the role."

Nuala admitted that choosing the International Rose of Tralee is no small task: "It's not going to be easy," she said.

"It's a big decision that we have to make and I know that. It can change somebody's life if they become the international Rose. It's a big thing to bestow on somebody."
