USA women's gymnastics star Simone Biles secured her second gold medal of the 2024 Paris Olympics on Thursday afternoon. But it wasn't easy, as Brazil gymnast Rebeca Andrade gave Biles a scare at the all-around individual final.

Biles finished the competition with a total score of 59.131, while Andrade was right behind her at 57.932, a 1.199-point difference. Andrade finished with a silver medal in the individual final and a bronze medal in the team final on Tuesday.

After her win, Biles spoke about competing with Andrade, admitting that it has caused her some stress and has made her tired.

"I don't want to compete with Rebeca no more. I'm tired. She's way too close. I've never had an athlete that close, so it definitely put me on my toes, and it brought out the best athlete in myself. So I'm excited and proud to compete with her... but I'm getting uncomfortable guys. I don't like that feeling. I was stressed. It's good. I'm gonna hand it to her now. She can have the rest," Biles said.

After the first rotation (vault), Biles took the lead in the event with a score of 15.766, but Andrade was right on her tail, scoring 15.100. However, it was the second rotation (uneven bars) that really made Biles and fans nervous.

Biles only scored 13.733 on the uneven bars, moving her two-rotation score to 29.499. Andrade had a much better score than Biles in rotation two, securing a 14.666 and taking the first-place spot for the time being with a 29.766 two-rotation total.

But Biles retook the lead in rotation three (balance beam) and never looked back, ultimately securing gold.

Biles recorded her sixth Olympic gold medal with the win. On Tuesday, she led Team USA, including herself, Suni Lee, Jade Carey, and Jordan Chiles, to gold as well. Her first four Olympic golds came in the 2016 Rio Olympics. She did not secure one in 2020 after withdrawing from the competition due to the twisties.

Andrade now has four total Olympic medals. In Tokyo, she won a gold medal in the vault final and a silver medal in the all-around final. Andrade is widely considered the second-best women's gymnast in this year's Olympics.
