Cody Rhodes is in the middle of his first run as Undisputed WWE Champion, but there was a point he wasn’t sure if he’d ever get there.

On the latest episode of What Do You Wanna Talk About? The Miz asked Cody Rhodes when he started to feel the wave of momentum in his career and if that started for him after departing WWE and helping to create AEW , Rhodes said he was so focused on being the fact of the revolution at the time, he never had the time to think about it at that point.

“I feel I was so caught up in the moment of the revolution that was happening, and wanting to be the guy they trusted the most with the revolution. Wanting to be the guy they trusted the most with all these changes that are happening. The world is opening up and wrestlers are coming straight from the independents as they are to the big-time TV settings. I just wanted to be the face of all of that,” Cody Rhodes admitted. “I feel like I focused heavily on it, not realizing is this working. Is it not working? Am I taking off?

Cody Rhodes was too focused on the moment while in AEW

“Especially with AEW, I was very in the moment of like we’re going to do this. This is gonna be great. By the time I came back at WrestleMania, my feeling was, I think I’ll be well-received. But I might also be booed as the guy who went away and did all these things. I would never say I was just happy to be there. But at that point in my career, it was about providing for the family and the best thing for my family.

“And then, as soon as I came back, I mean instance, into walking out, it had rekindled, not just my love for pro wrestling, but it rekindled the feeling of no, I can get to the top. It’s not lost yet. I still have a shot at it.”
