Trout began a rehab assignment last week, which was then put on pause due to a setback in his surgically repaired right knee.

Angels general manager Perry Minasian told reporters on Thursday that the 32-year-old MLB outfielder suffered a torn meniscus injury on the same knee.

It was the same injury that led to a May knee surgery in the first place.

Trout’s season has come to an end, and the 11-time All-Star opened up on his situation, sharing that he received the brutal news on Wednesday.

“Since my initial surgery on May 3rd to repair my meniscus, my rehabilitation proved longer and more difficult than I anticipated,” he wrote on X .

“After months of hard work, I was devastated yesterday when an MRI showed a tear in my meniscus that will require surgery again – ending my hopes of returning this season.

“Playing and competing is a huge part of my life.

“This is equally as heartbreaking and frustrating for me as it is for you, the fans.”

Trout then shared his hope for light at the end of the tunnel for himself and Angels baseball fans.

“I understand that I may have disappointed many, but believe me I will do everything I can to come back even stronger,” he continued.

“I will continue to help my team and teammates from the dugout as we press forward in the second half of the season. Thank you for the support.”

Before his injury, Trout played 29 games and hit just .220 with 10 home runs.

It’s been a rough few seasons for Trout, who has appeared in over 100 games just once since 2021.

Last season, he missed 80 games due to a fractured left hamate.

In 2021, Trout played in only 36 games due to a right calf strain.

The Angels will have to wait for Trout to return in the 2025 season.

Los Angeles has a 47-61 record and is sitting in fourth in the AL West.

They haven’t made the playoffs since 2014 which was Trout’s fourth season in the league.

He won the MVP in that year as well as the 2016 and 2019 seasons.

Trout has 378 career home runs and is still on the path of earning a spot in the MLB Hall of Fame.
