Manchester City are reportedly set to demand a fee north of $51 million () for striker Julian Alvarez this summer should any clubs express interest in the Argentine forward.

The 24-year-old arrived at the Etihad back in 2022, and has won almost everything there is to win in English club football. However, recently, Alvarez sparked rumours about his future after expressing dissatisfaction over missing out on important matches.

The Argentine, who is currently competing for Argentina at the 2024 Paris Olympics, said: "Last season, I was one of the players with the most minutes at City. But in the end, you don't like being left out of important matches; you want to contribute. I'll take my time to think about what I want for myself. We will see after the Games. First, if I can, I will take a few days off. Then we will decide."

In response to Alvarez's remarks, City boss Pep Guardiola said: "I read that he's going to think about it. OK, think about it. Then he will inform us what he wants to do. Julian played a lot. He wants more? It's fine. So that's why [he wants to] think about it. And when he thinks about it, he will inform us."

Guardiola's comments then led Alvarez being asked for an update on his future, to which he replied: "There is a lot of talk. I am focused here [at the Olympics] because it is a short tournament. At Manchester City I feel very good, I played a lot of minutes. But we will see after the Games. First, if I can, I will take a few days off. Then we will decide."

And should City decide to sell the 2022 World Cup winner, they could potentially receive a substantial fee. Football Insider report Alvarez could be available for $51m (£40m/€47m) this summer, with City open to entertaining the idea of his departure.

Any offer below this figure would likely be rejected. Alvarez is under contract at the Etihad through till 2028, meaning City are in a strong negotiating position. And it could be Atletico Madrid that look to give Alvarez the big game match time he craves. The La Liga side, who sold Alvaro Morata to AC Milan and released Memphis Depay this summer are said to be on the hunt for a new striker, with Diego Simeone a fan of Alvarez.
