Following a recent heel turn, it appeared Trent Beretta would finally receive the singles push many AEW fans had been hoping for. However, having not wrestled since Double Or Nothing in May, it was revealed he was sidelined through injury. And now, in unfortunate news, Beretta has disclosed on social media that he has undergone neck surgery due to two of the screws from his 2021 neck fusion surgery having broken. Whether this is career-threatening remains unknown, although any time a wrestler’s neck is damaged, it is a concern.

“quick little american neck surgery. turns out I wrestled so hard that two of the screws from my neck fusion broke. very cool. very tough. screws have been replaced. next I will be doing revenge.”

37-year-old Beretta became known to most wrestling fans when signing with WWE in 2007 before debuting as part of their version of ECW in 2009 alongside Caylen Croft as a tag team. Then, once Croft was let go by the company, Beretta would become a singles wrestler on SmackDown, mainly used in lower card feuds and as an enhancement talent before moving to NXT in 2012. Yet, after suffering a torn triceps, he was released, resulting in him rebuilding his career in TNA, ROH, and New Japan.
