3 NFL Teams That Are Being Overrated For 2024

The NFL is full of new life as August dawns. Training camps are underway, coaches are hollering, and players are hitting. As the regular season draws nearer, prediction season is upon us.

Some teams will be predicted to win it all when they ultimately don’t get close. Others will get much farther than anyone might have believed coming into the year.

Here are three teams that fit into the former category.

    Chicago Bears

The Bears are a lot of fun for analysts to talk about. Several big-name players now are newly mixed, creating plenty of hope. However, in 2024, there’s one big catch. Caleb Williams is a rookie. C.J. Stroud had an exciting first season in the NFL, but that almost never happens for rookies. Most first-year players struggle in general, and considering the amount of pressure on Williams, a rough outing this year is probably in store.

Sure, having DJ Moore and Keenan Allen will help mask some of Williams’ growing pains. However, quarterbacks elevated by their players rarely make a deep playoff run.

While Williams might have a better season than many rookies, the Bears are simply not Super Bowl contenders this year. It would be reasonable to call them playoff contenders, but nothing more this year. In 2025, Williams could be a Super Bowl contender. However, there is simply too much growth that needs to take place this year to also reach the Big Game.

    Houston Texans

The Texans had a magical season to kick off the Stroud era. After hitting such early heights, many are calling the Texans the best answer to Patrick Mahomes in the AFC.

That said, Stroud still has plenty of questions to answer.

He proved he could break out in one season. Can he do it again? Even with the addition of Stefon Diggs, Joe Mixon, Danielle Hunter and others, Stroud has one big disadvantage: his tape is out now and teams have had months to identify his weaknesses.

This year, Stroud might be asked to win with one hand tied behind his back, even with the additional offensive talent. A compromised quarterback doesn’t make up for the addition of Diggs and Mixon, although the additions do help. That said, calling the Texans Super Bowl contenders might be a little presumptuous.

    New York Jets

The Jets took a mulligan on the 2023 season. With Aaron Rodgers now healthy, many fans hope to see the team take flight this season. For that to happen, however, Rodgers needs to deliver better than he has in years.

Last year, he missed the season due to injury. In 2022, he missed the playoffs in his final season with the Green Bay Packers. With expectations getting set at the Super Bowl and Rodgers on a downward trajectory, those hopes are likely unrealistic.

Additionally, with hardly any playoff experience on the roster, the Jets are unlikely to make a run. Even if they dominate and win the division, most first-time playoff contestants go home in their first two playoff games.
