If you spend a lot of time in your kitchen, you most likely have a favorite appliance . For some, it's the air fryer and for others, it's the microwave, but whatever your favorite appliance is, keeping it clean and in tip-top shape is important.

For example, if your favorite blender is doing a lot of work for you, are you cleaning it properly? If you're popping it in the dishwasher, you should re-think your method. The high heat of a dishwasher can wreak havoc on your blender, causing the metal parts to rust and the rubber gaskets to dry out.

And while you can fill the blender jar with hot soapy water and carefully scrub with a sponge, it can be a little dangerous when you get around the blades. Luckily, there's a better and easier way to clean your blender. We've done this in our kitchen and can attest that it's a great technique. Read on to find out all about the quick and easy process.

When the last smoothie is done, here's how to get your blender in tip-top shape in a hurry. We should mention that this method works best with a fresh mess in your blender. If you wait and the stuff inside dries, you have a slightly more stubborn mess on your hands.

    1. Add hot water. As soon as possible after blending that smoothie or soup, fill the blender jar about halfway with hot water from the tap.

    2. Add soap. Next, add a drop of dish soap and close the lid. And no, you don't need much soap here. If you add a lot, you'll end up with a sudsy explosion (ask us how we know).

    3. Blend! Put the lid on, hold the lid on with a kitchen towel between your hand and the lid (just for safety) and turn it on. If not, turn it to the lowest setting and gradually increase it, letting it run for 30 seconds to a minute, or until the blender is full of soap suds. This is a pretty satisfying experience—kind of like watching a car wash on a smaller scale.

    4. Dump, rinse and dry. After the wash cycle is done, take the blender off the base, dump the soapy water into the sink, and give the blender jar a rinse with warm water, making sure all of the soap is gone. Then, place the blender upside down on a drying mat and let it dry completely.

How to Deep Clean Your Blender

If your blender is in rough shape (aka stubborn stuck-on particles or stains), you might need to do a deeper clean.

For a deep clean, fill the blender with warm water and soap, as listed above, and then let it soak for a few hours. Then, pour the soapy water out and use a soft scrubber to clean the container, being careful around the blades. This is a process you may need to repeat a few times to get rid of really stuck stains.

If that doesn't work, you might need to bring in the big guns: lemon and vinegar. According to a tip from thektchn , you can also add a coarsely chopped lemon or white vinegar with soapy water to cut through scum and stains even faster. The lemon also smells great, so that's a bonus!
