    Squid Game season two release date finally announced by Netflix along with season three renewal

    The highly-anticipated second season to Squid Game has been announced by Netflix .

    Squid Game first premiered in 2021 to critical and fan acclaim. It was Netflix's most-watched series and most-watched program in 94 countries, amassing 1.65 billion viewing hours in its first four weeks on the platform.

    The South Korean show went on to be nominated for 14 Primetime Emmy Awards and became the first ever non-English show to be nominated for Outstanding Drama Series. Lee Jung-jae won the award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series and became the first time an Asian actor won for a non-English speaking part.

    The second season will drop on December 26 of this year. Returning cast members include Lee Jung-jae who played Seonge Gi-hun also known as Player 456; Lee Byung-hun who plays the overseer of the Squid Game; Wi Ha-jun, a police officer named Hwang Jun-ho who was searching for his missing brother; and Gong Yoo who portrays the salesman who recruits players into the Squid game.

    New cast members with unannounced roles include Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Gyu-young, Lee Jin-uk, Park Sung-hoon, Yang Dong-geun, Kang Ae-sim, Lee David, Choi Seung-hyun, Roh Jae-won, Jo Yu-ri, and Won Ji-an.

    An official description of the second season was also released. It stated: "Three years after winning Squid Game, Player 456 remains determined to find the people behind the game and put an end to their vicious sport."

    "Using this fortune to fund his search, Gi-hun starts with the most obvious of places: look for the man in a sharp suit playing ddakji in the subway," it continued, "But when his efforts finally yield results, the path toward taking down the organization proves to be deadlier than he imagined: to end the game, he needs to re-enter it.”

    The show also announced there will be a season three to the Netflix show and it will be the last of the series. That date hasn't specifically been given but is set to premiere in 2025.

    Hwang Dong-hyuk, series creator, director, and executive producer, shared a letter with fans online where he wrote: "I am thrilled to see the seed that was planted in creating a new Squid Game grow and bear fruit through the end of this story.”
