There is just no catching a break for Mike Trout.

The Angels star is done for the rest of the season after he suffered another torn meniscus in his surgically repaired left knee, general manager Perry Minasian told reporters Thursday.

It had been the same injury that put him on the injured list at the end of April.

Trout, 32, had just begun a rehab assignment with Triple-A Salt Lake last week but saw that quickly end when he left his first game after just one at-bat due to what was first called left knee soreness.

It was later announced that he would come back to Southern California to be re-evaluated, and that’s when it appears the Angels discovered the extent of the issue.

“Since my initial surgery on May 3rd to repair my meniscus, my rehabilitation proved longer and more difficult than anticipated,” Trout said in a statement posted to social media on Thursday . “After months of hard work, I was devastated yesterday when an MRI showed a tear in my meniscus that will require surgery again – ending my hopes of returning this season. Playing and competing is a huge part of my life. This is equally as heartbreaking and frustrating for me as it is for you, the fans.

“I understand that I may have disappointed many, but believe me, I will do everything I can to come back even stronger. I will continue to help my team and teammates from the dugout as we press forward into the second half of the season. Thank you for your support.”

It’s the latest blow to Trout, who has been dealing with various injuries over the past few years, including back issues and a calf problem that has caused him to miss time over the past three seasons.

Since 2021, Trout has played over 100 games just once, having not played in at least 140 since 2018.

Minasian is remaining confident that Trout will be back healthy for the 2025 season.

“I believe it’s gonna turn,” Minasian told ESPN . “He’s going to play. My call is he hits 70 homers and wins the MVP. I believe it. Looking at the look on his face, he might have the best year he’s ever had next year.”

When healthy, Trout is one of the best players in Major League Baseball, winning three American League MVPs in his career.

In 29 games this season, Trout hit .220 with 10 home runs.

At 47-61, the Angels have been well out of the playoff hunt for some time.
