You Won't Believe this Perfect Pie at Houston's Pizza Hot Spot

    2024-08-02

We decided to spend our Saturday evening at Piola Midtown, a popular spot in Houston, and were pleasantly surprised by the quick seating despite the bustling crowd. The ambiance was lively and welcoming, setting the stage for a delightful dining experience.

Our meal began with Caesar salads, which featured some of the best croutons I’ve ever tasted. They had a fresh, homemade quality that added a perfect crunch to the crisp romaine lettuce. Whether they’re made in-house or not, they sure taste like they are.

Being pizza enthusiasts, we couldn’t resist trying more than one variety. We ordered the Honolulu and the Meat Lovers pizzas. The Honolulu was a standout. The ham was flavorful and perfectly cooked, and while the pineapple added a lovely sweetness, I wished it was cut into smaller pieces rather than slices for easier eating. Despite this minor detail, the combination of flavors was delicious and satisfying.

The Meat Lovers pizza, on the other hand, was a bit of a mixed bag. Topped with sausage, spicy salami, and bacon, it was quite hearty but also a bit too salty for my taste. The abundance of meat, while generous, overpowered the overall flavor profile, making it a bit heavy.

For dessert, we opted for the tiramisu, and it did not disappoint. The tiramisu was deliciously creamy with just the right balance of sweetness and coffee flavor. It was the perfect end to our meal, leaving us thoroughly satisfied.

Our waitress was friendly and courteous, enhancing our dining experience with her pleasant demeanor. However, it was clear that she was overwhelmed with the number of tables she was managing, which slightly affected the service speed. Despite this, she remained attentive and did her best to ensure we had a good time.

Overall, Piola Midtown offers a vibrant dining experience with some excellent dishes. The Caesar salads and Honolulu pizza are particularly noteworthy, and the tiramisu is a must-try for dessert lovers. While the Meat Lovers pizza wasn’t my favorite due to its saltiness, it’s worth trying if you enjoy robust, meaty flavors. If you find yourself in Houston, make sure to visit Piola Midtown for a satisfying meal. Just be prepared for a busy atmosphere and possibly a slight wait during peak hours.
