Scottie Scheffler Has Eye-Opening Stance On His Legacy

World No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler has quite a unique perspective on life and his career.

He has made it clear that he focuses on whatever he is doing at that time and doing it to the best of his ability, which in his case saw him win six PGA events in 2024.

“I try to do my best to be present where I am,” Scheffler told the media earlier this week.

“But you know, at the end of the day, I’m just a golfer, and I’m just out here trying to compete," he added. "That’s really all there is to it, and sometimes I’m good at it, and sometimes I’m bad at it. I’ve talked about it a lot. It doesn’t define me as a person. Doesn’t define my life, and I’m just happy to be here.”

Quite the philosophical and levelheaded view for the best golfer the sport has seen in quite some time, but maybe it's his ability to understand he's trying his best that sets him apart. Or maybe, as we learned from the comments he made today, he knows that in this construct of the thing we call life, we are all just a microcosm. When asked by a reporter about his Olympic experience and his legacy as an icon in the sport, Scheffler revealed he doesn't really care.

“I don’t focus much on legacy," Scheffler said . "I don’t look too far into the future. Ultimately we’ll be forgotten. I mean, it’s true,"

While it's certainly jarring to hear a pro athlete say they don't care about their legacy, it may also be why he has found so much success.

In terms of how he has done in Paris thus far, Scheffler is t-No. 6 through the first round after shooting a 67 (-4).
