Steamy summer days will soon subside to make way for a brisk autumn in New York, according to the latest prediction from the Old Farmer's Almanac .

In its fall forecast , the Old Farmer's Almanac is projecting average and below-average temperatures throughout the Empire state.

Western New York - including Rochester and the Finger Lakes region - is expected to feel below average temperatures this fall, while the northeastern and eastern part of New York - including the Adirondack and Hudson Valley regions - is predicted to experience near average temperatures this fall.

When will New York's fall foliage peak in 2024?

As for New York's fall foliage, the Old Farmer's Almanac predicted it will be at or near its peak by Friday, Oct. 11. To catch a glimpse or a photo, the publication suggests visiting the Adirondacks and Catskills in New York, Acadia National Park in Maine, the Poconos in Pennsylvania or along the Kancamagus Highway in New Hampshire's White Mountains.

How rainy will it be in New York in fall 2024?

Western New York - including Rochester and the Finger Lakes region - is expected to see above average precipitation while the northern and eastern part of New York is predicted to see below average precipitation this fall.

How does the Old Farmer's Almanac make predictions?

According to its website , the Old Farmer's Almanac makes its predictions by comparing solar activity with weather patterns.

The almanac says it uses multiple academic disciplines for its predictions, including solar science, climatology and meteorology.

It also says the weather forecast methodology is the modern version of a formula created by the Almanac's founder, Robert B. Thomas, in 1792.

How accurate are the Old Farmer's Almanac's predictions?

The Old Farmer's Almanac, which is slightly different from the Farmers' Almanac, claims an 80% accuracy rate on its predictions.

In a report analyzing the success of its predictions for last winter, the Almanac said its total accuracy rate for the season was 64%. The publication attributed the lower rate to "abnormal recent weather patterns."
