It has mostly been smooth sailing so far for Diana Taurasi and Team USA in the 2024 Paris Olympics. It got extra special for the Phoenix Mercury star on Thursday, as she notched her 40th win in the Olympics, the most ever by any basketball player in the quadrennial sporting event.

She also became just the first player in the Olympics to have at least that many victories.

Following Team USA’s, 87-74, victory over Belgium, Taurasi was informed of the latest addition to her incredible basketball resume.

"Oh wow," Taurasi said about her achievement, per FIBA’s website .

"But you know what," added the 42-year-old. "It's just been real fun with this group and those kind of marks only ever happen when you are on great teams with great coaches. Today was just fun to have that atmosphere for basketball.

"40 is cool, but let's hope there are a few more yet."

Taurasi will take the win -- and the accolade -- despite her otherwise forgettable performance. She started against Belgium but did not score on three attempts from the field. She also finished with just a minus-4 through 14 minutes of action.

Belgium gave the defending Olympic champions a real test but Team USA ultimately delivered the goods when it mattered the most. A’ja Wilson and Breanna Stewart, just like in Team USA’s win over Japan, dominated, with 23 and 26 points, respectively, while combining for 20 rebounds.

Up next for Team USA is a matchup versus Germany on Sunday.
