'Turkish John Wick' Blowing Up Online After Olympic Performance

The 2024 Paris Olympics has brought about more than a few memorable memes over the past week or so. A new internet sensation, however, came to life on Tuesday after the air pistol competition at the Chateauroux Shooting Centre -- one whose popularity has reached some pretty insane heights in the span of a few days.
Most folks have not come across the name Yusuf Dikeç. Those who have, likely learned about this man's existence via social media. This is after the 51-year-old Turkish sport shooter went viral for winning a silver medal in the 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team competition.
Dikeç achieved this historic milestone with style.
While most athletes are equipped with specialized (and very expensive) equipment for these types of competitions, Dikeç took center stage wearing what appears to be a normal pair of prescription glasses. The best part, however, is probably the fact that he had his left hand nonchalantly tucked into his pocket throughout the match.
Unsurprisingly, Dikeç's performance took the internet by storm, with fans dubbing him the "Turkish John Wick."
"This Turkish man is the Turkish John Wick !
"He won an Olympic medal with his hand in his pocket, as if he were going to the market, without using any equipment. That's the next level!" wrote a fan on X, formerly Twitter.
"This Turkish athlete is the John Wick of Turkey! 😂
"He clinched an Olympic medal with his hand casually in his pocket, as if he were out for a stroll, without even using any equipment. That's a whole new level of cool!" wrote another.
"He is Turkish John Wick 🇹🇷" tweeted a supporter.
"Turkish John Wick indeed! 😂 That's one way to redefine "keep it simple, stupid." No frills, just skills. This guy is the real deal! 🎯🇹🇷" read a comment.
Dikeç, who won the silver medal alongside teammate Sevval Ilayda Tarhan, recently shed some light on his rather unorthodox approach to this age-old sport.
“I shoot with both eyes, most shooters do it with one, so I didn’t want that all that equipment," Dikeç told Turkish radio station Radyo Gol (h/t CNN Sports). "Shooting with two eyes — I believe that it’s better. I’ve done a lot of research on it, so I didn’t need the equipment ."
“Shooting with my hand in my pocket has nothing to do with artistry. I am more motivated and feel more comfortable while shooting,” he said, adding that this stance “is actually about bringing the body to equilibrium and focusing and concentrating.”
Be it intentional or not, his explanation actually made him sound even cooler.
