Journey’s Jonathan Cain Sues Neal Schon—Again—This Time for Allegedly Maxing out $1 Million American Express Card

Bringing together former members of Santana, the Steve Miller Band, and Frumious Bandersnatch, the musicians created the rock band Journey. The group continues to perform, consisting of Jonathan Cain, Jason Derlatka, Deen Castronovo, Arnel Pineda, Neal Schon, and Todd Jensen. For Schon, he is the last remaining original member of Journey. While watching the band gain stardom over the years, it seems that Schon has found himself in some legal trouble when Cain decided to sue his fellow band member for apparently overspending which involved maxing out a $1 million American Express card.

What is even more surprising than Schon being sued is the fact that this isn’t the first time. Back in 2022, the musician found himself in a similar spot due to overspending. Filing at Delaware’s Chancery Court, the documents share details on how Schon maxed out the credit card and spent more than his allotted hotel fee. Given an allowance of $1,500 a day, Schon apparently spent upwards of $10,000 a night.

According to Cain’s lawyers at Fox Rothschild LLP, the unregulated spending by Schon now “poses a severe threat of harm to the company and to Journey’s storied history of musical greatness.” The filing added that due to Schon, Journey’s reputation in the music industry took a hit. Thankfully, the documents added, “The band’s actual onstage performance is, at the moment, one of the only aspects of the business that has not suffered.”

Jonathan Cain And Neal Schon Created Freedom 2020 Inc. To Help With Finances

Having dealt with financial struggles in the past, both Cain and Schon joined forces when they created Freedom 2020 Inc. With the business built to handle Journey’s touring schedule, Freedom 2020 Inc. only has two board members, Schon and Cain. Cain is hoping that the courts will appoint a custodian to act as a third board member to deal with disagreements.

Although struggling in the past, Journey continues to share their music with fans. While releasing Eclipse back in 2011, the group didn’t release new music for nearly 10 years. Their last album to hit shelves was Freedom, back in 2022. And with the band finding its way back to court, it seems fans might have to wait a little longer.
