France, the host nation of the 2024 Summer Olympics, has been excellent in the men's soccer tournament, dominating Group A in advancing to the quarterfinals. Les Bleus faces Argentina, another world powerhouse, in the quarterfinals today, Friday, August 2, at 3 p.m. ET.

France is an even-money favorite at top sports betting sites to win the game in regulation. The "to advance" market at Bet365 Sportsbook has at France -200 odds to move onto the semifinals and Argentina +150.

Les Bleus started strong at these Paris Games, defeating the United States 3-0 in its opening game, and followed it with 1-0 and 3-0 wins over Guinea and New Zealand.

Argentina was upset by Morocco in its first match 2-1, but went on to beat Iraq (3-1) and Ukraine (2-0) in group play.

The France vs. Argentina matchup has the look of a final, yet the loser has no chance at a medal.

    France betting news and analysis

Dominant is an understatement for France. The pressure has been a lot for the host nation, with home crowds expecting good results. The young French team has delivered up to this point but faces its toughest challenge yet, going up against a strong Argentinian squad.

The French offense has been elite, scoring seven goals by seven different players. If there have been two offensive leaders, they are Michael Olise, who has one goal and leads the team with two assists, and Alexandre Lacazette, one of France's three over 23-year-old players, who has provided a strong veteran presence and tallied a goal and an assist.

Perhaps the best performances have come from the French goalies and defenders. They have not allowed a goal in Olympic play yet. Guillaume Restes started two games in the net and made five saves, and Alex Paulsen made six save in his start. Restes is expected to start in the quarterfinal , and with a strong defense in front of him, should be confident in keeping Argentina's offense limited.

    Argentina betting news and analysis

Which team shows up, the squad that played poorly and was beaten by Morocco, or the one that dominated the last two games? The defense and goalkeeping have been better. After allowing two goals to Morocco, Argentina held Iraq to just one and shut out Ukraine. At the same time, the offense has steadily improved.

The attack has been led by Thiago Almada and Kevin Zenon. Almada leads the team with two goals, while Zenon leads Argentina with two assists. The pair of midfielders has looked dangerous getting the ball forward, but Argentina needs more production out of their forwards.

Julian Alvarez is one of their over 23-year-old players and a senior team forward, but he has just one shot on target and no goals in these Olympics. He needs to be a presence in this match and be a finisher for Argentina to upset France.

France vs. Argentina prediction: Les Bleus to advance to 2024 Olympic soccer semifinals

Even though Argentina came back to play better in its last two matches, La Albiceleste have not performed like they are capable. Unless that changes and players like Julian Alvarez start showing up, France will win this match. The home crowd will stir up one of the best environments of the Olympics so far.

    Prediction : France
