Giants still pretending to be happy about Daniel Jones' contract

The New York Giants have been a tire fire for the better part of a decade.

Since 2014, the Giants have had just two seasons where they finished above .500, and seem to be tied down by their own decisions.

New York is entering year six of the Daniel Jones experiment, which should have had the plugged pulled on it after it peaked in 2022. Jones threw 15 touchdowns that season and the Giants made it to the divisional round of the NFC playoffs before getting eliminated by the Philadelphia Eagles. That offseason, the Giants gave Jones a four-year extension worth up to $160 million for an average annual salary of $40 million per season.

Last season, Jones played in only six games due to injury, throwing two touchdowns to six interceptions. However, the Giants are still acting as if that contract was a good idea, as owner John Mara is still defending the decision .

"I'm still happy we gave [Jones] that contract because I thought he played really well for us in '22," Mara said. "Last year, he got hurt and let's be honest, when he was playing, we weren't blocking anybody. So let's give him a chance with a better offensive line with some weapons around him to see what he can do."

This feels like a marriage that is undoubtedly going to end in divorce, but both parties are still acting like everything is fine when they're with friends. The Giants have set themselves back with this contract, and should have pulled that band aid off after the 2022 season knowing that was probably the best Jones was going to give him. However, Cowboys fans hope Jones remains in New York for life, as he is 1-7 against Dallas.
