Slovakian Olympic swimmer Tamara Potocka collapsed poolside Thursday after competing in the 200m individual medley.

Potocka, 21, climbed out of the pool following her heat and fell to the ground immediately after exiting the water. She had just finished seventh in what was the third heat of the event that morning.

Medical attendants rushed to provide her with oxygen. She was eventually taken out of the venue, receiving supporting applause from fans at the La Defense Arena.

According to a report from ESPN, Slovakian Olympic officials revealed that Potocka had suffered an asthma attack . The situation escalated because she didn't have immediate access to her inhaler.

"Tamara has asthma," Slovakia team leader Ivana Lange, via ESPN. "This whole combination of nervous and physical tension while she did not have her inhaler immediately available to use contributed to the creation of this problem."

Lange added that Potocka's health still needs to be monitored "for several more hours."

Potocka's appearance in Paris is her first in the Olympics. She was reportedly conscious and actively communicating with doctors shortly after her asthma scare.
