Police say they are looking for a man who they say tried to rape a woman in the Bronx on Thursday.

Police told a local news provider that the man approached a 28-year-old woman near East 148th Street and Saint Anns Avenue around 2 a.m. and tried to sexually attack her.

According to law enforcement, the individual fled, and the woman was transported to a hospital for treatment.

New York State Recorded Rape Cases From 2000 To 2022

The city of New York had a total of 1,617 rapes in 2022. In 2001, there were 1,981 reports of rapes, so this was a big drop. The FBI's Uniform Crime Reporting meaning of rape is used to figure out these numbers.

US Rape Issues

Between November 1995 and May 1996, the National Violence Against Women Survey (NVAWS) found that between 300,000 and 93,000 women and men were raped every year.

Several studies have revealed that 15%–20% of U.S. women have been raped. A 2007 Department of Justice rape study reported 18% prevalence, while the 1995 National Violence Against Women Survey found 17.6%.

A study released in March 2013 by the U.S. Department of Justice's Bureau of Justice Statistics says that the number of rapes and sexual assaults on women fell 58% between 1995 and 2010, from 5.0 per 1,000 women aged 12 and up to 2.1 per 1,000. Attacks on 12–17-year-old girls dropped from 11.3 per 1,000 in 1994–1998 to 4.1 per 1,000 in 2005–2010. Attacks on 18–34-year-old women also dropped, from 7.0 per 1,000 to 3.7 per 1,000.
