I t has been the better part of two years since Tory Lanez was found guilty on charges of negligent discharge of a firearm, assault with a semiautomatic firearm, and carrying a loaded and unregistered firearm, and it’s been about one year since he began serving his 10-year sentence for shooting Megan Thee Stallion . Well, apparently, Joe Budden still isn’t over it.

Despite the fact that, at the end of 2022, Budden apologized to Megan for persistently coming for her while the case against Lanez was still ongoing, on Wednesday, the Slaughter House member-turned-podcaster was back at it again with full-blown-yet-vague-AF conspiracy theories regarding what really happened between Lanez, Megan and her friend, Kelsey Harris.

*sigh* Let the Sherlock Hotep quasi-detective work begin.

“All of them involved have reason to lie, so I’m not really going with, who do I trust more? I’m just going with… n-gga thoughts,” Budden said. “What is more likely? Tory leaves the studio, goes to Kylie Jenner’s house, is having a blast, thinking he’s about to get the foursome popping off. Meg gets jealous — we know how they got in the car. What is more likely? That Tory was so angered in that car that he took Kelsey’s gun and shot her?”

Budden appeared to be insinuating based on zero evidence and 100% based on ill-informed speculation that Harris is the one who shot Lanez.

“Listen, we know whose gun it was,” he continued. “So he took her gun and shot [Megan]. Why? Why was he so mad […] Y’all think a man is just shooting a girl for no reason? Give me a reason! ‘Cause the only reason we got was, ‘I [Megan] said that I have more number ones than him.’ Or what’s more believable? Two people that was running around as best friends, new in the music industry, one gets COVID, comes back, finds out her best friend is fucking the n-gga that she’s fucking on. And this n-gga was just about to get some Kylie Jenner ass […] That guy is shooting? No, that guy wants to go back!”

Budden isn’t even making a real argument here. He just keeps repeating the question, “What is more likely,” regarding what inspired the shooting, which is a pointless discussion to have by people who were not there, and one that completely ignores the evidence Lanez was convicted on. Budden is simply employing a tactic employed by conspiracy theorists who got their investigative degrees from the prestigious institution of Trust Me, Bro University . All he’s doing is generally saying anything and calling it truth because it’s difficult to prove or disprove in real-time.

Harris appeared to respond to Budden’s speculative nonsense, tweeting, “It’s easy to get lost in the media, but let’s remember MY NAME was cleared by both parties involved. Stay tuned.”

Budden was, of course, careful not to call Megan a liar — despite previously declaring that “all of them involved have reason to lie” —and, instead, suggested she was a “pawn” in a larger conspiracy to take Lanez down for no discernable reason.

“I think it’s above her. I don’t think she made it up. She’s a mere pawn in this,” he said. “This play is greater than her. She didn’t make nothing up. I ain’t gonna say who I think made it up… but it wasn’t her. N-ggas out there know who it is. I know exactly who it is, I know how that gun got there, I know whose gun it was.”

So, what exactly is Budden trying to say here? Does he believe some nameless, faceless, “powers that be” organization set this all up in order to bring down some random Canadian rapper many people had never heard of before news broke of him shooting Megan? Was Tory Lanez secretly some kind of revolutionary who was seen as so dangerous that powerful people launched a COINTELPRO-like attack against him?

To borrow Budden’s own question: What’s more likely, that Tory Lanez is the victim of some kind of Illuminati plot —or he simply shot Megan Thee Stallion in the foot and is now paying the price for it?
