What is the Holly Project?

A new fishing pier on Lady Bird Lake will break ground in the Holly area later this month. It’s part of the

Holly Project , a series of planned improvements in partnership between The Trail Conservancy and the Austin Parks and Recreation Department.

By the time it’s complete, the area just west of the decommissioned Holly Power Plant at Festival Beach would be revitalized. The Holly Project is still in early stages, but could include :

• A new trailhead. Located at Metz Park, this project would bring shade, seating, and other amenities.
• Trail enhancements. TTC hopes to add new shade structures, drinking fountains, and trees.
• A new play area. A new one-acre plaground would be located between Fiesta Gardens and the Lorraine “Grandma” Camacho Activity Center.

The new fishing pier’s groundbreaking will be a community celebration from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 24. Expect free breakfast tacos and music behind the baseball fields .
