LUBBOCK, Texas – The Lubbock Police Department would like to inform the community of multiple scams in and around Lubbock. They involve gift cards and Bitcoin and there is no age limit for whom scammers will target.
The Lubbock Police Department provided the community with some tips to help ensure targets will not become victims of these schemes.
LPD said the scammers are calling residents and claiming to be from LPD or another law enforcement agency. LPD, or any other law enforcement agency will never contact anyone telling them they owe money to them, as they do not collect money.
‘There are plenty of jobs out there,’ More jobs available in Lubbock as unemployment remains low It is a major red flag if the person on the other line tells you not to get off the phone while purchasing gift cards, money or Bitcoin. Hang up the phone, LPD said.
Whatever agency or organization these scammers claim to be with, always know you have the right to hang up the phone and call the department’s legitimate number to see if what they are claiming is true. Oftentimes, it is not.
LPD encourages residents to spread the word and bring awareness to the situation.
