Sabrina Carpenter lyric sparks fury as fans jump to Barry Keoghan's ex's defense

Sabrina Carpenter has sparked fury from fans after she appeared to slam boyfriend Barry Keoghan 's ex.

Outraged followers of the famous couple appeared to take offense to one line in particular from her hit single Espresso as they jumped to defend Barry's ex-girlfriend and the mother of his son, Alyson Sandro . The conversation on social media was prompted after Alyson was seen liking a post about “mothers raising their kids practically by themselves.”

One fan expressed their disappointment that the move appeared to imply that Barry has not been present in son Brando's life of late. The toddler - who turns two this month - was born to Barry and Alyson in August 2022 while he was filming his hit movie Saltburn.

Prompted by Alyson's cryptic social media move one fan wrote on reddit : "I've wondered how this man has managed to spend time with his child when he seems to be following his girlfriend around the world. I guess this confirms he doesn't have any time for his kid. Nothing worse than a dead beat parent. Makes sense that they split up over his partying and wild nights. I'm also giving Ms Carpenter a side eye."

The reference to chart star appeared to stir feelings among fellow social media users as they then slammed Sabrina for her lyrics in Espresso where she sings “too bad your ex don’t do it for ya,” as well as her involvement in Barry's apparent relocation to LA. One scathed: “'Too bad your ex don’t do it for ya' would light a fire under me, forget the high road cause nobody else is on it. It just feels like she always needs everyone to know she’s the better option."

A second said: "Hearing that specific song changed my view a little bit on the situation. I’m sure she doesn’t really care about Barry and his ex because Sabrina seems like she REALLY wants to make sure everyone knows her and Barry are together. I hate using the word girls girl but does just seem like she doesn’t care as long as she can get the guy in the end."

A third commented: "He moved to LA as soon as he started dating Sabrina. Instead of a long-distance relationship with her, he chose a (very) long-distance relationship with his young son. I don't see how people are defending him. He put his own happiness above the well-being of his kid to be with a pop star and live the celebrity life."

A fourth speculated: "Sabrina's entire new song is a red flag about him. Like she is fully aware of the rumors and is basically saying 'I am trying to see the best in you' even though the evidence is there against it.'"

Others also pointed out that fans of Sabrina had made their way onto Alyson's Instagram page where they quoted the lyrics under her most recent post with a fifth fan stating: "The fact that her fans were even going on his ex’s page, as a non-public figure, and writing the song lyrics, disgusting behavior. Absolutely appalling and not a good reflection of Sabrina."

But others defended the lyric. One wrote: "I don't think the line is a personal dig at anyone. I think it's on the same wavelength as 'sorry for your loss'. It's just a line in a song and not really that deep."

Another said: "I don’t think it’s personal. Pop singers reference exes all the time in songs. There are really no other obvious details that would support this theory. It’s just a fun song."
