As kids, one of our biggest dreams is getting surprised with the pet of our dreams. For many, it's a cute puppy wearing a big red bow, while for the more unconventional, it might've been a crazy lizard or a tarantula. Not as cute, perhaps, but way cooler!
When we grow into adults, we tend to let go of a lot of our more childish dreams. Recently, though, one new dog dad's reaction to getting surprised with his dream puppy showed that those dreams never really go away:

Bridgette's husband has been saying he wanted a puppy for a long time. They're both adults who presumably have at least a little bit of a handle on life, so it's totally feasible that they could have a puppy - it's just a matter of when. Since she knew he'd been wanting one, she went ahead and picked one out. Moody, their sweet little boy, will definitely be dad's favorite child!
The best part is how devoted he was to finding those frozen burritos: it took him a solid 30 seconds to notice the puppy in her arms! Legend has it, they still haven't eaten dinner, but who even cares? There's a puppy to play with!
Are Surprise Puppies a Good Idea?
No one is thinking about the logistics of a surprise puppy when they're being surprised with a puppy, let's be real. Most surprise-puppy-recipients are people who have expressed a desire to get a puppy, but it's still a little worrisome when they're not involved in picking it out.
If you'd like to surprise someone with a puppy, there are a few things to check off your list first:
- Make sure the puppy is a breed they've been talking about wanting or have experience with.
- Try to match their desires in terms of gender, color, etc.
- Pick up basic supplies for the puppy: they'll be unprepared.
- Be prepared for it to backfire, just in case.
- Only get surprise puppies for people you live with so you'll be able to jump in and take care of them if something goes wrong.
If done responsibly and thoughtfully, there is nothing wrong with surprising someone with a puppy. Puppies are an excellent lesson in patience and responsibility, and they can be a great learning tool for young kids in your home. Just remember, they're real living things and need care!
