Arne Slot has been told by one of the club's youngsters that he is "ready" to step up for the Reds after spending last season away from the club.

Liverpool's first-team stars have been back in training for almost a month now and some players who have been there from the start are already feeling the benefits as they continue with preparations for the new season.

And with a number of players yet to make their returns following their international involvements earlier this summer, it's allowed those on the fringes of the first team to make the most of the extra time with the new manager.

Liverpool youngster Tyler Morton , in particular, feels as though he is ready to make his mark at Anfield this season having benefitted from a successful loan spell away from the club with Championship outfit Hull City in 2023-24, and has now called on Slot to give him his chance.

“I’m definitely ready, I think we’ve been ready for a few weeks now because we came in so early,” Morton told Liverpoolfc.com of his physical readiness. “And I’m grateful for it because we’re all ready and we all look very fit. Everyone is working so hard in training; you’ve got to because the demands are so high, especially at this club.

“I’ve come back and I feel in the best shape I’ve been in, especially physically. I’ve just got to keep working hard, keep going and hopefully it’ll take me into a good place.”

Morton made his competitive debut for the Reds in September 2021 and ended the campaign with nine appearances in all competitions. That summer, he secured a season-long loan move to Blackburn Rovers and heavily impressed for the Championship side, making 46 appearances as a regular in central midfield.

Morton was then shipped out once more 12 months ago when he joined Hull for the 2023-24 campaign. During his time at the MKM Stadium, the 21-year-old grabbed three goals and five assists in 39 Championship appearances as the Tigers narrowly missed out on the play-offs.

Now, following two successful seasons as a regular in the Championship, Morton feels he is ready to step up to the plate for Liverpool this term. There have already been two appearances off the bench in the pre-season friendlies against Real Betis and Arsenal , but he'll be hoping to dislodge those ahead of him in upcoming matches.
