HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — Late Friday morning a line of storms pushed through the area, some of which were on the strong side.

With the strong to severe storms that tracked through Northeast Alabama late morning into the afternoon, the atmosphere was able to use up some of that fuel for storm development.

If the atmosphere can recover and the sun can break through the clouds, the instability of energy needed for storm development will increase. This necessary fuel combined with the hot and humid airmass in place along with the cold front passage with support the second round of storms this afternoon.

As of 2 p.m. Friday, the second line of showers with embedded storms was beginning to develop across Middle Tennessee. The next batch is forecast to push into NW Alabama between 3 and 5 p.m. and then track east-southeast through northeast Alabama through 8 p.m. There is a chance some storms will strengthen to severe intensity.

The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) still has the majority of the area highlighted under a ‘Marginal Risk’ (level 1 out of 5) for strong to severe storm development. The greatest chance for severe storms will be in the areas highlighted in dark green, but everyone should remain weather aware.

Torrential rainfall, damaging winds over 50 mph and frequent cloud-to-ground lightning are all possible with developing storms. Stay with the Weather Authority for the latest!
