BIG COUNTRY, Texas ( KTAB/KRBC ) — As we approach the weekend, a weak cold front will sweep through the Big Country, bringing a 20% chance of showers on Saturday but no relief in temperatures. The showers may be accompanied by isolated thunderstorms that will move across the region on Saturday and further south on Sunday. While a shower or two would be welcomed, the low probability of precipitation means we shouldn’t expect heavy rain, just a light sprinkle.

The Big Country will experience temperatures ranging from 100 to 106 for most of the week. A Heat Advisory is in effect for a significant portion of the Big Country until 8:00 p.m. Friday, and it may be extended as temperatures continue to exceed 100 degrees. The dry conditions will make the heat feel intense, with little breeze and no forecast for rain. It’s important to be cautious of the heat, stay hydrated, apply sunscreen, and minimize outdoor activities during the hottest parts of the day.

On Tuesday, a high-pressure system will bring even drier conditions and higher temperatures than previously expected. The forecast predicts highs of 105 on Wednesday and Thursday, although this could change as we get closer to those days. With these dry conditions, the risk of fire increases. It’s important to avoid potential fire hazards such as discarding cigarette butts carelessly and leaving fires unattended, as they can easily spark and spread.
