Tom Blyth, Emily Bader To Star In Netflix Adaptation Of ‘People We Meet On Vacation’

It looks like the film industry is finally catching up to BookTok. At long last, Netflix ‘s highly anticipated feature adaptation of Emily Henry ‘s bestselling romance People We Meet On Vacation finally has its leading couple: Tom Blyth and Emily Bader .

Netflix shared a video of Bader receiving the news from director Brett Haley. “You’re lying!” Bader said when she got the news. “Wait, I’m getting overwhelmed. Yes, are you kidding! I’m gonna cry.” Blyth then congratulated Bader on landing the role.

Haley next introduced Henry onto the call, who told the actors, “I’m so excited, you guys. I have been kind of an anxious wreck about who could play these characters and I just truly could not feel any more confident that my readers and then so many more people who don’t even know about the book are going to completely, completely fall in love with Poppy and Alex.”

Poppy and Alex are a pair of unlikely best friends who take a week-long vacation together every summer. But their friendship gets put to the test when they’re finally faced with the decision of taking it to the next level — or risk losing each other forever.

Fans of the novel shouldn’t be too worried, as it looks like the film is in good hands with Haley and the cast. Haley previously directed Hulu’s Looking for Alaska adaptation, as well as the 2020 Netflix rom-com All the Bright Places . The film will be based on a screenplay adapted by Yulin Kuang, who is also adapting and directing Henry’s 2020 novel Beach Read .

It remains unclear who else will be added to the People We Meet on Vacation cast.

Blyth has become quite the up-and-coming star in Hollywood, nabbing several high-profile roles since starring in Lionsgate’s blockbuster The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes .

Bader currently leads Amazon Prime ‘s steamy romantasy series My Lady Jane , adapted from Gemma Burgess’ YA historical novels.

While several of Henry’s books have been optioned for film and television (including Beach Read , Book Lovers , Happy Place , and her most recent release, Funny Story ), People We Meet On Vacation is the first adaptation to go into production.

Jennifer Lopez ‘s Nuyorican Productions recently optioned Happy Place for a television series at Netflix. And the author herself will be adapting Funny Story into a feature film, though that is also in early development.

It looks like Henry’s projects are gaining more progress than other popular series that have been snatched up for television and film. Sarah J. Maas ‘s bestselling high fantasy series A Court of Thorns and Roses remains stuck in development and recently lost its showrunner , Outlander showrunner Ronald D. Moore .
